Hello friends,
Chuck "Southpaw" Jones here with an update on my residential condition. The Ultimatum Shows are officially over, along with my life here in Nashville.
The verdict was actually a lot closer than I expected it to be. We had a great crowd for all three shows, but in the end, it just wasn't enough. Here is the official tally, keeping in mind that I required an audience of fifty for each performance:
June 21 -- 43
June 28 -- 53
July 19 -- 53
As you can see, the average per show is 49. In fact, there is a bit of controversy surrounding the July 19 number. A family of four was quietly enjoying a bit of pizza when we started the show. They stayed for a couple of songs, then left. Did they come to see me? No. Were they converted to the cause? No. I decided not to count them. Had they stayed just a bit longer, I wouldn't be packing up my wrestling videos and silverware. Oh, well.
I must say, though, that the Southpaw supporters in town really came through for me. Those numbers are hard to get on a Wednesday night, and I appreciate everyone who attended.
But enough mushy stuff. I really am leaving town quite soon, but I wanted to give Nashville's cultural elite one last chance to see me in action. I booked a show at Bongo Java on August 10 to do just that. I've always wanted to play there, as it was the first place I saw Steve Earle perform live.
This may not be my last performance in Nashville, but it will be my last as a resident, and I don't plan on returning anytime soon.
And if that's not enough to make this show special, I will also be releasing my newest compact disc, One in the Door, One in the Grave at the show. I'm calling it "an intimate portrayal of a former child." It will be available for $10.
Also, I'll have the limited edition $10 shirts you may have heard about. They read, "Dear Nashville, By the time you read this shirt, I'll be gone. It didn't have to end this way. -Southpaw" and the back has my cool logo and web site address. There are only 50 in existence, so this will be your last chance to pick one up.
So the show is free, but if you want to own a shirt or either of my first two CDs, you may want to bring some cash or your check book.
If you are on the mailing list, I'll be sending more info about the CD and the show later. If you aren't on the list, simply reply to this message if you want, and I'll include you directly.
If you are upset by my impending departure, just remember, Nashville is a great town for original, genuine, quality entertainers, and I won't be missed. Guys like me are a dime a dozen in this metropolis of creative geniuses. Seriously. I'm totally sincere. 100% not fooling.
Rejected,
Chuck "Southpaw" Jones
