Hello friends,
I should have last Wednesday's final attendance
number by the time I finish this
e-mail, so please bear with me as I run
through some news bits.
Perhaps you've noticed that the whole "Loser
Leaves Town" angle has been getting
some press attention. Both the Nashville
Scene and The Tennessean had
Southpaw-centric blurbs last week.
And to think, I don't even own a giant
media-manipulating corporation!
Thanks and apologies to those who attended
the first Ultimatum show last week.
For those of you who don't know, the owner
goofishly booked another guy for my
time slot, so we decided to be civil and
split the bill. To those who
left after a sampling of his music, I
hope you will return sometime to see the
full show I intended to perform that night.
To those who waited through his
numerous songs to see me return to the
stage, well, I hope a rare appearance
of the unitard redeemed the evening for
you. This week, Mike has assured me
that the 8:30 time slot is ALL MINE.
But bring your riot gear just in case.
Speaking of Mike, he's turned out to be
a real let down after a promising start
as the owner of Guido's. It's quite
a shame because that basement is my
favorite place to play, and the restaurant
itself seems cursed. Maybe it was
built on the spot where Toby Kieth was
born. Maybe it was built on David
Lipscomb's slave cemetery. Who knows?
The point is, Guido's is not a
dependable venue, so you (as my supporters)
and I must share the brunt of
constant inconveniences...
...like the fact that the July 12 show
has been moved to July 19 because Mike is
having surgery and closing the place for
a week. Nevermind that I already
designated that show as my final Ultimatum
performance...it's gone now. So if
you're keeping score at home, the official
third show of this controversial
series will be on Wednesday, July 19,
at 8:30 PM.
Since July 12 has been advertized beyond
this mailing list, though, I may try to
play that night anyway, on the street
or on the deck or something. Don't worry,
I won't count the attendance that night
against Nashville.
The web site continues to plug along without
much supervision from yours truly.
For a while, I got by having a free site
with no "pop-up ads," but that didn't
last. I hope to move the entire
site to some place where e-commerce cannot
molest, but that may take some time.
For now, if you visit the site to check up
on me or sign the NEW guestbook, simply
minimize the annoying ad window, and it
should stay out of your way.
This just in...the final peak number for
the first Ultimatum show, keeping in
mind that I require fifty to remain in
town, is forty-three. Oh, so close,
Nashville! You were just one ska
band away from retaining my services. Don't
cry, though, because I'm feeling merciful
today. I think I'll just shift that
deficiency over to this week's show.
Therefore, I'll be looking for 57 this
Wednesday. I guess I'm in a good
mood...I certainly never gave Dayton, Ohio a
second chance like this.
On edge,
Southpaw
